Conveyor Idlers Spec Sheet

Impact & Rubber Disc Rollers

Absorbs impact and sheds carry-back with NR/BR rubber discs vulcanised onto internal steel rings, which hold a constant interference fit on the Lorbrand steel roller body under the heaviest loads. Three configurations: impact, high-impact and rubber-disc return.

Product range

Three disc configurations on one roller body.

Every configuration shares the same welded steel roller body, shaft, bearings and seal stack. The configurations differ in disc section, disc pitch and where on the conveyor the roller runs.

Impact Rollers

Loading zones · NR/BR discs · ⌀127–280 mm

Rubber discs along the full face of the roller, fitted in the carry-side impact frames under loading zones and transfer chutes. The discs absorb the impact of falling material and protect the belt and the roller body.

High-Impact Rollers

Severe transfer zones · high-impact rubber

Heavier-section discs in a high-impact rubber compound for severe impact in loading zones. Available with solid CNC-machined housings and spherical bearings for extra-heavy duty.

Rubber-Disc Return Rollers

Return side · spaced discs · carry-back

Spaced discs on the return side shed carry-back and keep material from building up on the running surface.

Construction

Welded steel body.
Steel-ring vulcanised discs.

Impact and rubber-disc rollers are built on the Lorbrand steel roller: thick pressed-steel or CNC-machined housings welded to high-precision, conveyor-grade steel tube, with proprietary manufacturing techniques and equipment keeping weld deformation to a minimum. Calibration of the bearing-housing seats in the final manufacturing step ensures a consistently true bearing seat and long bearing life.

The rubber discs are vulcanised onto internal steel rings. The rings maintain a constant interference fit on the roller shell.

For extra-heavy-duty applications, solid CNC-machined bearing housings, spherical bearings and high-impact rubber compounds are available.

Key Design Features

Nothing moves, yields or creeps.

Five design features that determine bearing, disc and roller life.

Macro-etch test of a Lorbrand roller weld showing full penetration
Macro-etch of roller weld
01

Precision bearing seats, constant tolerances

Bearing seats are calibrated in the final manufacturing step and hold constant tolerances throughout decades of service.

02

Welded housing-to-shell joint

The welded joint holds each housing in the shell, preventing the housing-to-shell failures that damage belt and frame.

03

Discs vulcanised onto internal steel rings

The steel-ring core holds a constant interference fit on the shell, so the discs do not dislodge, even under the harshest conditions or loads.

04

Proven 4-stage sealing system

Centrifugal seal, labyrinth seal, storage seal and bearing seal work in series to keep contamination out and grease in, for maximum roller life.

05

Concentrically machined & ground spindles

Axle spindles are CNC-machined and ground concentric to the shaft, so the bearing runs true on its seat.

Available Options

Monitoring, heavier housings and special compounds

Factory-fitted options, available across the impact and rubber-disc roller range.

PREDICTIVE MAINTENANCE

Sensor Seals

A self-powered sensor built into the roller's end seal, reading temperature, vibration and speed, so a failing roller is found before it damages the belt. For rollers with 6305 bearings and larger.

LIGHTWEIGHT

Hollow shafts

Hollow shafts cut roller weight for weight-critical and special-frame applications, alongside thicker-wall tube options.

EXTRA HEAVY DUTY

Solid CNC-machined housings

Bearing housings machined solid from bar in place of deep-drawn pressings, for extra-heavy-duty impact frames.

EXTRA HEAVY DUTY

Spherical bearings

Spherical roller bearings in place of deep-groove ball bearings, for heavy-duty applications where angular misalignment at the bearing must be accommodated.

SPECIAL COMPOUNDS

FR, EPDM and PU discs

Fire-retardant (FR) rubber discs, EPDM discs and polyurethane (PU) discs are available in place of the standard NR/BR compound, selected to the material, temperature and site specification.

Process Verification

Quality control and testing

Dimensional inspection, weld integrity, disc fit and roller running checks, carried out to the inspection and test plan for each order.
