Who we are
This website is run by Lorbrand (Pty) Ltd Reg. 1999/026674/07, 6 Hennopsrivier Street, Sunderland Ridge, Centurion, Gauteng 0157, South Africa ("Lorbrand", "we"). Lorbrand (Pty) Ltd is responsible for the personal information described on this page. Enquiries from Chile and South America for spares may also be handled by our Chilean company, Lorbrand S.A., Néstor del Fierro 448, Sector Industrial La Negra, Antofagasta, Chile.
Questions about this policy, and requests about your personal information, go to our Information Officer: Thomas Granig, +27 12 666 6000.
In short
- This website loads no advertising, social media or third-party analytics code. Its fonts, images and videos come from its own server.
- Visit statistics are daily totals per page, kept without cookies, and cannot be traced back to you.
- One cookie, lb_v, remembers which articles you have read so that we can recommend others. Visitors from the EU, the EEA and the UK, and browsers that send a Global Privacy Control signal, never get it.
- What you send us through the contact form is used to answer your enquiry.
- We do not sell personal information.
Enquiries you send us
When you use the contact form, we receive your name, company, email address, phone number (if you give one), the type of enquiry and your message. The website stores these with your IP address and your browser's name, which it also uses to block spam and abuse of the form.
We use your details to answer your enquiry and to prepare any quotation or technical information you ask for. We may pass your enquiry to the Lorbrand company, agent or distributor that serves your country, so that they can answer it.
The website keeps form submissions for 6 months and then deletes them; its nightly backups keep a copy for 14 more days. An enquiry that leads to a quotation or an order is kept with our sales records for as long as required.
Enquiries you send us by email or telephone are used and kept in the same way.
Reading history on this site
To recommend articles you have not read yet, this site sets a cookie (lb_v) containing a random identifier. Our server keeps, for that identifier, which of our pages you visited and which recommendations you were shown, in memory only, for at most 90 days. It is used for nothing else, is not shared with anyone, and is not linked to your IP address or device; your IP address is only looked up, while each page is being sent, to see which country it is registered in. Visitors from the EU, the EEA and the UK, and browsers that send a Global Privacy Control signal, do not get this cookie. You can remove it at any time by clearing this site's cookies.
Visit statistics
To see which pages are read, each page tells our server once that it was opened, how long it was on screen and how far it was scrolled. We keep only daily totals per page: numbers of views and visitors, countries, the kind of device, and which website or search engine you came from. No cookie is set, nothing is stored in your browser, and your IP address is not stored: it is used, while the page is being sent, to look up the country it is registered in, and, combined with your browser's name and a random value that changes every day and is never saved, to count each visitor once per day. These totals cannot be traced back to you.
We keep these daily totals for 6 months.
Language choice
If you pick a language in the language switcher, the website sets a cookie named lang. It holds only the language you chose, so that the site opens in that language on your next visit, and lasts one year. Without it, the site follows the language your browser asks for.
Search
What you type in the site's search box is sent to our server to find matching pages. The search runs on our own server; no search provider receives it. Search queries may be retained for 6 months.
Hosting and server logs
Like any website, this one receives your IP address with every request, so that it can send you the page. We may retain server logs for up to 6 months that include your IP address and browser details to maintain or improve operational performance, and prevent abuse.
Cookies
| Cookie | Purpose | Lasts | Who gets it |
|---|---|---|---|
| lb_v | Recommends articles you have not read yet | 90 days | Visitors from outside the EU, the EEA and the UK whose browser sends no Global Privacy Control signal |
| lang | Remembers the language you picked in the language switcher | 1 year | Visitors who pick a language |
Why we may use it
We use personal information only where the law allows it:
- to answer an enquiry and to take the steps you ask for before a contract;
- in our legitimate interest in running, securing and improving this website (visit statistics, spam protection, article recommendations);
- where the law requires it.
Who we share it with
- Lorbrand companies, agents and distributors, to answer your enquiry (see above).
- Our hosting providers, including OVHcloud, which store the website and its data for us.
- Authorities, where the law requires it.
We do not sell personal information or share it for advertising.
Transfers to other countries
Lorbrand has factories in South Africa and Chile, and agents and distributors in other countries, so your enquiry may be read in a country other than your own. We strictly adhere to all applicable cross-border data transfer legal requirements by relying on the appropriate statutory safeguards mandated under POPIA Section 72, the EU/UK GDPR, and Chilean Law No. 21,719. Specifically, we transfer personal data only to jurisdictions recognized by relevant supervisory authorities as providing an adequate level of protection. In the absence of an official adequacy decision or local adequacy list, we implement robust alternative safeguards—including Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) and Data Transfer Agreements—to guarantee that data subjects and juristic entities maintain enforceable rights and equivalent legal protections globally.
How we protect it
The website is served over an encrypted connection (HTTPS). Form submissions can be read only by authorized Lorbrand staff.
Your rights
You may ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, and object to how we use it. Write to our Information Officer (see Who we are). We may first need to confirm your identity.
If you are not satisfied with our answer, you may complain to a data protection authority: in South Africa, the Information Regulator (inforegulator.org.za); in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk); in the EU, the authority of the country where you live.
Children
This website is meant for businesses and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information about children.
Other websites
Links to other websites, such as LinkedIn or our customers' websites, take you to sites with privacy policies of their own.
Changes to this policy
We publish every change on this page, with a new date at the top.
