PRODUCTS: Intelliweigh Belt Scales
Patented Intelliweigh Belt Scales were developed in consultation with top field
technicians to produce conveyor scales with superior accuracy, reliability, ease
of maintenance and installation. The scales are manufactured and distributed by
Lorbrand .
Intelliweigh scales are engineered to maximize reliability and provide the lowest
total cost of ownership.
Advantages
- Has the fastest and most accurate weight integrator of all conveyor belt scales
currently available. This enables it to make extremely precise conveyor material
mass measurements under material surge conditions (960 samples per second).
- Has the greatest operational accuracy and availability of any belt scale. This is
achieved by using multiple load cells and tachometers.
- Detects and reports : -
- Belt drift
- Uneven material flow
- Belt slip
- Foreign objects on the scale frame
- Faulty load cells and tachometers
…. all the above whilst maintaining specified operational accuracy.
- Robust and modular scale frame engineered to deflect less than 1:1000 at rated
loads. The frame construction ensures long term scale accuracy.
- The standard Full Floating Heavy Duty Scale Model has no moving parts, which increases
reliability.
- The unit can be supplied in kit form to be assembled at conveyor positions which have
limited access.
- Electronic modules are fitted into high quality stainless steel cases with IP65
rating and superior electrical screening and lightning protection.
- Worldwide availability of spares and support of electronic hardware from Rice Lake
Weighing Systems www.ricelake.com
- Implements the following self diagnosis checks :
- Zero error check every time the belt runs empty for at least 3 revolutions
- Cross checks readings between load cells and tachometers
- Monitors electronic module integrity
- User Friendly menus on LCD panel and keypad simplify diagnosis and programming.
- Communications protocols include Profibus DP, Ethernet DCP/IP 10/100 base T, DeviceNet,
Allen Bradley RIO, OPC.
- True communications capabilities in real number floating point format allow a SCADA
controller or Sequel Server to read tags directly from the scale.
No intermediate
hardware or software is required to implement this feature, thus saving costs.
- Software is fully programmable to suit customer requirements.
- Operation and service information are stored in an on-board database which can be
downloaded at the user’s convenience.
- Service information is available to plan and schedule maintenance.
- Users have the option to permit remote scale diagnostics and monitoring.
- Web based monitoring options are available.
Live feed from an Intelliweigh Scale based at a plant in South Africa can be viewed
here (Graphics have been optimised for mobile phones). The page is updated every 30 to 60 seconds.
- Detailed Reporting software modules are available. See sample report.
- Plant Balance for Intelliweigh is implemented using real-time Web-based solutions.
Intelliweigh Belt Scale Models
Several models are available in the Heavy Duty, Counterbalance , and Single Idler
range.
Heavy Duty
The Heavy Duty range comes in 4 or 8 load cell variations with options of 2, 3,
4, or 6 idler sets to suit the application. There are no moving parts and all loads
are directly transferred to the load cells.
Redundancy is introduced into the Heavy Duty Scale in order to increase reliability,
accuracy and availability. Load cell readings are sampled individually and compared
with the values obtained from the other load cells. The readings can be used to
monitor material mass, belt drift, uneven material flow and foreign objects on the
frame.
Counterbalance
Counterbalance scales are used for applications where cost is a deciding factor.
They are available with a single load cell in 2, 4 or 6 idler variations.
Single Idler
Single idler scales are also used where cost is a deciding factor. Up to 5 Single
Scale Idlers can be linked to one Intelliweigh Controller unit to save costs. These
units are ideal for control applications and for use in quarries, small coal wash
plants etc.
Accuracy
Accuracy is entirely application dependent, as it is affected by many variables
such as belt tension, troughing angle, material surges, material lump size, moisture,
scale frame rigidity etc.
For standard applications the standard 6 idler Heavy Duty Scale measures conveyed
material mass to within 0.0156% from actual.*
On conveyors with well controlled material flow, fine material size, low belt tension,
20 degree troughing angle, low moisture and 70% loading a low cost Intelliweigh
one idler scale can have an accuracy of 0.5%.
The achievable accuracy for a particular can only be estimated after evaluating
the conveyor support structure, belt configuration, speed and operating conditions.
* Figures obtained from several Intelliweigh scales installed
at Richard’s Bay Coal Terminal in South Africa. Mass deviation of 0.0156% was verified
with bulk tests using train weigh scales after transporting 1.023 million tons of
coal. The material flow rate on the conveyors was approximately 6000 tons per hour.
Calibration
Intelliweigh has service teams to calibrate the scales during commissioning. Training
can be provided to on-site personnel to do Zero weight calibration. Recalibration
may be required if the operating conditions of the conveyor vary, such as a significant
change in belt tension or the installation of a new belt.
Scale Selection
As in determining accuracy, scale selection is application dependent. If the scale
is to be used for accounting purposes then the multiple idler heavy duty scale configurations
should be considered as these units have the greatest accuracy.
Usually run-of-mine or control purposes do not require this accuracy and scales
with a lower number of idler sets used in these applications will be cost effective.
