PRODUCTS: Idlers (Idler Calculations)
The following on-line calculations may be used to select suitable idlers. We recommend
however that you contact Lorbrand in order to check the selection as there may be
other factors such as dynamic effects, environmental or operational conditions that
may influence selection.
The program will enable one to calculate the static idler station load and sequentially
select an idler series with a higher load rating.
The L10 Life of the idler is also displayed.
In the case of carry idlers the material cross sectional area is also checked and
adjustments made if applicable to the proportion of the material load on the center
(critical) roll and hence L10 Life.
For a given conveyor configuration and operating parameters calculate
- The Idler Station Static Load
- Select the appropriate belt series and verify L10 Life
- Confirm selected conveyor capacity is adequate
Idler Station Static Load Calculations
Load Ratings
CEMA
Listed load ratings are CEMA load ratings and are based on all components being
sized and designed in order to withstand these loads.
Additionally it must be assumed that in the case of 3 equal length carry Idlers,
70% of this load must be applied to the center (critical) roll.
Bearing L10 life must exceed 30,000 hours for CEMA B and C and 60,000 hours for
CEMA D, E and F idlers at 500 rpm.
SABS
Load ratings are based on CEMA load ratings for similar idlers but tends to be lower
as belt width increases because SABS idlers do not have stepped shafts. Stepped
shafts are available for SABS series idlers on request.
